Usually I am sympathetic towards people losing their jobs. However, that goes out the window when their government is hostile and I am watching family struggle due to the trade war.

To the Americans crying about how unfair we’re being by celebrating their economic loss and how “what are we supposed to do about our administration?”

Now you know a fraction of how every person in a country under US sanctions feels. The exact logic you’re railing against is the same logic your country applies to Cuba.

The difference being those people have to deal with the immiserstion of brutal poverty and you just have to deal with having to find a new job and some mean Canadians online poking fun at you. Cry me a river.

Maybe those innocent people should haul a guillotine down to DC and loudly complain to those responsible for this mess instead of pointing fingers at other countries.

YOU VOTED FOR YOUR MISSERY AND IT AFFECTED THE WORLD AND NOW YOU ARE SURPRISED PEOPLE ARE NOT SUPPORTING YOU.

YOUR COUNTRY IS THE WORLD TERRORIST AND THE FACT THAT ONE MAN CAN AFFECT THE WORLD ECONOMY LIKE YOUR ORANGE MUSSOLINI HAS IS PROOF OF IT.

YES, PEOPLE ARE HAPPY THAT YOUR COUNTRY IS FEELING A SLIGHT SLIVER OF WHAT IT HAS DISHED OUT TO OTHERS IN OVER 250 YEARS.

YOUR IGNORANCE IS WHAT FUELS YOUR COMMENTS AND YOUR “EXCEPTIONALISM” IS ALL YOU KNOW.

IMAGINE THINKING YOU ARE THE BEST NATION ON EARTH ALL WHILE TERRORIZING MOST OTHER NATIONS FOR OVER 100 YEARS.

              Absolutely does actually

One who is strongly partial to one’s own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.

Intolerance of people from any country will always be bigotry, nothing you or I could do to change that regardless

But by your own definition of bigotry there’s none of that to be found in this thread. Sure, you could construe an intolerance of people from the US (even though it’s more like intolerance of their many years of harmful bullshit) but there’s absolutely no partiality toward any group. It’s purely frustration at the US and many of its citizens’ stubborn unwillingness to own up to the countless problems their country has caused across generations, let alone right now.

I do not always agree with the person you’re replying to, but to suggest that they don’t ever have criticism for the US is extremely disingenuous.

What they’re arguing is that there are over seventy-five million of us that actively voted against this, and those people do not deserve the blame here.

Do you know how many people that actually is? I mean truly?

According to a quick Google search, the amount of people who voted for Kamala Harris in 2024 is larger than the entire populations of every country after Germany on the list of nations by population. That’s from number 20 to number 234.

              https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/population-by-country/

That’s the amount of people who voted. For Kamala. People who were eligible, registered, and showed up even after Dems pulled their candidate last minute.

More people than in all of Thailand. More people than in all of France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Egypt, Turkey, South Korea… I will stop because it would literally be easier to just list the 19 nations with a higher population than total Kamala Harris voters.

Now spread that over a land mass the size of China, and maybe you’ll start to understand why people in Washington State aren’t “making a day of it” to bring a guillotine to the white house (and do what, exactly? I mean talk about empty fucking gestures) in DC. A literal continent away. A literal physical impossibility for a working person to do.

It’s fptp, third parties are fundamentally nonviable in the overwhelming majority of places. It is functionally impossible for a third party to win the presidency. Due to gerrymandering and the spoiler effect most third party votes help Republicans get elected. Vote for Dems oyn the general and vote for the most progressive candidates available in the primaries. That’s the only actual way in the current political system to effect progressive change at the federal level, by tea partying the Dems leftward. Anything else gets republicans elected. But on the other hand the fascism has come too far for elections to fix it any more, so there you go.

The people who voted for the Dumpster at least managed to take the most basic, simple first step in starting to fulfill their civic duty. I don’t know if I can bring myself to laud that, but I’ve certainly no credit to award those who didn’t even vote at all.

If so much as 10% of the nation is engaged and has so much as a spark of competence yet cannot bear to vote Democrat, where did all the 3rd-party and off-ballot votes go? Why are those still practically a rounding error, hovering around 2% every year but 2016?

Those who didn’t vote at all ought to feel the most shame, because the laziness of abdicating all personal responsibility doesn’t offer half the emotional shielding that idiocy does.

Ever heard of realpolitik? Being righteous doesn’t matter on a geopolitical scale, especially not when it comes to an imperial superpower currently in the midst of its death throes. I’m afraid you’ll have to come to terms with billions of people understandably revelling in hundreds of years of a country’s utter nonsense finally returning itself to sender. Might be irrational, but it’s definitely not without precedent.

Shedding jobs is literally what our administration has set out to do. Its what the Fed has been aiming for. They recently voted to hold interest rates, with some members voting to raise them. Idk who these “analysts” are, but they’re fucking morons. Even if interest rates were cut, it would take like 6 months to a year to see wages and employment bounce back.

I’m def not saying it is good to be losing jobs, but it is intentional.

To me, an American, here’s how this reads: In past economic downturns, the US government could at least construct a plausible story of our resilience and strength because of things like “inflation is high all over the world, but ours is lower than other trading partners” or “unemployment rate is higher than we’d like but still lower than other developed nations” and things like that. This time around, it’s clear in many ways that our federal (and often state) governments are making things so much worse for us than necessary, not doing anything that’s effective to fix the problems, and other developed countries / trading partners / former allies (even those who are facing similar issues and/or dealing with Trump’s shenanigans) are doing better than us in metrics that are important for the working class.

Believe me when I say, I’ll be pointing this out and rubbing it in MAGA supporters’ faces along with everything else. Even a mediocre president and incompetent congress could have maintained the slow but steady recovery we were in the midst of before Trump took over.

Instead, they supported and elected a terrible president and malicious / complicit congress, and the resulting damage to our country, the economy, and our reputation is now cemented in. They voted to fuck everybody over, which tracks with the rapist and pedophile supporting crowd.
