Most people will still use Instagram TikTok and such. Having GrapheneOS will just hurt the quality and hurt the sales. Most people don’t care about privacy, best this will do is satisfy a small minority (who will flash better hardware with GrapheneOS anyway)

I use Instagram to keep up with some friends and family on GrapheneOS AMA

Threat modeling and compartmentalization are a thing

The beauty of Graphene is it’s sandboxing and exploit protections are built precisely on assumption that the user will install every single piece of malware out there. The OS doesn’t trust anything by default.

And they function normally in this sandbox? I’m assuming sandbox is just compartmentalization. I’m interested in these mainly because when I use an app, browser, whatever… I want it seeing only what I give it with regular use, I don’t want it digging through my contacts, messages, location, microphone, other programs, yada yada. Instagram should only see what I’m scrolling. The play store should only see what I choose to download.

What better hardware? Google is getting increasingly hostile to Graphene. Pixel hardware also seems to be getting worse. And since Pixel is currently the only hardware you can install Graphene on, this is a beneficial thing that provides an alternative that doesn’t give money to Google.
