  • The hardware is good & you can get phones under 6".

They have 2 big flaws: price & years of continued support. The catch 22 is you can get a good price on them after the support window (2 years, but looks like 5 will be going forward). Luckily LineageOS always picks up after the support window if willing to take on possible firmware vulnerabilities knowing software will continue to be updated—but the camera requires the proprietary apps/libs or it looks low-end.

  • If anything, being blocked from Roblox is probably better for you.

I finally quit LoL by committing to GNU∧Linux during a time when the Linux solutions were primitive & broke constantly each patch so it was never worth the effort. By the time support was good enough, the habit was luckily already broken. With the new kernel measures kicking folks off of Linux support, maybe it is time to reassess the kinds of games you interact with.

  • I dual-booted for a while & was on Microsoft Windows 7. I was using it less & less–usually just to play specific game. When MS Windows 10 was announced with an all new set of privacy invasive features on by default & 7 was going to be phased out, & as I got older with less time I wanted to spend with games, I decided to completely pull the plug on Microsoft & saying that there were enough games out there that worked on Linux (Proton infancy) that if Linux support wasn’t out of the box, I would just choose something else. The same will happen with some folks as 10 support is pulled–where if I thought 10 was too privacy-invasive, 11 + Recall is a nightmare.

  • It’s a standard reply, but are you interested in committing to not Adobe? If you come at it with an open mind, you can get comfortable with Inkscape, Krita, GIMP (adjustment layers soon), or similar. Supporting these projects can give you longer term peace of mind already seeing Adobe’s profit-driven downward spiral.

  • Valve has put a lot of work into helping WINE & Linux. Even if it was a selfish play to break free from Microsoft & other app stores to lock those into their marketplace fee, I can’t help but be grateful for the better ecosystem & uptick in users. Since they are privately held too, they aren’t in the same business of chasing quartely profits or making the experience worse & worse by selling your data & slapping ads everywhere.
