Maybe GNSS stands for maGNetic compaSs and Sextant?

Ha! I knew there had to be an EDID blocker out there!

unfortunately, the store often eats the cost as a lower-priced open box.

If a company can repeatedly submit the same DMCA notice with no explanation or evidence, taking projects down for months at a time, the system is broken. It prevents users from discovering or updating Luanti, and risks users settling for shady or ad-ridden forks instead.
That’s why we have to get off of apps and OSs controlled by and for corporations.
This is like being mad at the scorpion on the frog.

Some of the more high quality 4k releases (even 1080p ones) just gobbles up storage.
I’m scratching my head here. Are they just being sloppy and inconsiderate?
The biggest video file I have is a fan edit of the hobbit trilogy. It’s 4 hours of 720p at 8 gigabytes. Why?
I’m just starting to experiment with Jellyfin, and I’m considering shrinking that down. I’m good with whatever format fit 90 minutes onto a 700MB video file that could be burned to a CD.

I will counter all that with one reason:
Nobody trusts Donald J. Trump with their data.

That sounds nice.
If Trump really wants to turn the screws, he can make it a requirement of federal contracts that all contractors use maps that comply with his infantile demmands.
I think you’re kind of living in a pre-Trump reality where laws and procedures means something. It’s a super bad idea to feel comfortable with this administration because something they want to do is technically illegal. Everything is up for grabs right now.

I have more interest in starting a WatchWindowsDie group than I do in going back to Windows, but it seems like the entire internet is already on the beat.

Synchronicity. Just found this love letter to LaTeX.

Wait…so we… w-w-w-won?

What is the point of writing better software when the entire ecosystem is built around Microsoft? Though certainly Zoom ate Skype’s lunch, and Slack is better than Teams… but maybe e-mail is too core a functionality, and, let’s face it, there’s old guys at the top that will fire their entire IT department before they get rid of their precious outlook. All my PST files for the last 20 years are on there! I have 200 inboxes and 400 rules!
Interesting thoughts on Word. I just know for what most people use it for–documents–it’s perfectly fine. It drives me up the wall that people pay for 365 subscriptions just so they can do that.

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Outlook
Of those four, only Outlook really could have used some changes. The other three were perfected 20 years ago. And how do you improve perfection? You can only make it worse.

Nope. Headset has a motions sensors and gyros and orients to the environment using its built-in cameras. The wands have lights tracked by the headset cameras as well as their own gyros. Works pretty well. I think the wands can lose tracking from the camera if they’re down by your waist, but the gyros take over at that point and you’re probably just pointing them around down there.
The original Rift and Vive both had external doodads you had to deal with, but the Quest is completely self contained.

Dear Mr. Huang,
I have a proposal that will make your company a lot of money. In fact, I guarantee this deal will will increase NVIDIA’s revenue by 19 billion USD.
All you have to do is invest 20 billion in my company, Al Is Awesome, LLC, and I will purchase 19 billion worth of NVIDIA cards to get my project off the ground.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Schipelborp
CEO, Founder, Al Is Awesome, LLC

Probably not immediately, but they’re both on Snapdragon ARM chips, so very possibly in the future.

Like much neurochemistry, this information is practically useless–as pointed out in the article. Increasing Orexin does not increase motivation, though removing does decrease motivation.
The hope is that by learning what chemicals are associated with what brain states, we can chemically influence the brain into these states. But that’s not how any of it works. The brain responds to the totality of the situation, and adapts in response to the environment. The neurotoxins are the result, not the cause.
Adding a chemical to the brain has the same logic as adding smoke to logs in the hope you get heat.

Yes. I played Half Life Alex via my wifi, even.
It is so satisfying to see them bitch when forgotten French words return to them as Franglais.
