I agree, and that is why I like xfce. I just would not really notice a difference if the project died or if it kept being developed. It is the same thing with lightdm. Until now, no one was maintaining lightdm. I did not even realize the project was rotting, and kept using it eventhough it was unmaintained since Ubuntu switched to GDM. In addition, I am still using Xorg eventhough it is dead, and it works fine.

I am aware that someone is implementing wayland in xfce, but that does not change the UX of xfce. I probably will not feel a difference in using wayland xfce compared to X11 xfce.

Projects don’t die because you and your cool friends decided that they are old news.

I think he is saying that xfce, budgie, and cinnamon served their purpose, and that there will be nothing innovative of them if we invested more money in them. I only agree with him on xfce, and not cinnamon and budgie. Xfce has been the same experience for a long time.

I understand. You can always increase your privacy with privacy-respecting tools, but qubes and tails are as private as you can get. I am just saying if you want to get more private then stop using the internet.

From what I get, Rust proposes to make low-level coding easier by forcing programmers into a certain workflow.

Yes and no. It forces programmers to a certain workflow like using a borrow checker to manage memory, but it actually makes programmer’s lives easier, because it prevents bugs from runtime. The compiler will throw a fit, over your buggy code if you try to compile, unlike C.

Yes. I prefer C because it is easier to learn than rust, and feel like rust is more comparable to C++. I also feel like llm plus rust is a good combo, these days.

I might be mistaken, but I think kvm stands for kernel virtual machine. Having no /proc, and interacting with sysctl instead sounds more secure, IMO.

Did you know openBSD does not have this folder? I think the BSD’s do not use /proc. I do not know why though.

I mean what can’t run NetBSD? I feel like we should start writing drivers in rumpkernels instead of writing drivers for our OS’s.

This is a concern I have as well. Normies are getting into Linux, or should I say GNU/Linux, without understanding the core concepts of Software Freedom. I feel Linux is has been ready a long time ago, but now Linux is more compatible with nonfree software. That is not really a positive thing. But atleast we are making a FLOSS OS more mainstream.

It could be, but it’s now in the hands of the same evil corporations that made some guys start GNU and shit.

GNU was started because of a broken printer. Jokes aside, RMS got upset that the company that manufactured the printer could not give the source code for him to modify it to make the printer better. That is when he founded the gnu project and the fsf.

BSD actually heavily inspired crux, arch, and gentoo. The aur and portage were inspired by BSD ports. Now of course, I do not know which BSD did the inspiration.

I will check out more of your content. OpenBSD is a cool OS. What is your opinion on desktop OpenBSD?
