Not just nurses, but doctors too. This exact problem was discussed at a conference I recently attended. Some doctors do better with AI assistance, some do worse. As far as we know, it seems to be dependent on how much they “believe in AI”. The more they do, the worse they perform when assisted.

I have no qualms about AI being used in products. But when you have to tell me that something is “powered by AI” as if that’s your main selling point, then you do not have a good product. Tell me what it does, not how it does it.

Besides what’s already been said, even if there is food waste from things left on the shelves, at least this allows us to know that certain items are undesirable for everyone and to avoid acquiring more of them. If you hand out a bit to everyone and they all end up in different trash bins, you’ll never know about it and you’ll never fix the problem.

As far as I can tell, Costco isn’t the lesser of two evils, but rather the one non evil choice of the pair. Their profit margin is something like 2%, which is just what they get from membership fees. Of course it’s possible. The question is whether someone is willing to pay for it out of their own pockets. Compute isn’t particularly cheap.

Innovation is incentivized with greater returns. Just because those returns aren’t excessively large, doesn’t mean it’s not there. You still get a net positive on innovating. Cigarettes are taxes in such a way that smoking at all is a net negative for most people. That’s what makes it a disincentive.

You can cut down the trees and they’ll still hold on to their carbon. Just don’t burn them.

Carbon capture is basically a form of energy storage. If it’s energy that we wouldn’t otherwise be able to capture, or if it’s more energy than we need for consumption at a given moment in time, then it makes sense to store it instead. I don’t know enough to say if these would apply in practice, but it’s plausible that it’s better to capture than to use the energy.
