For a better lemmy experience, remember to block lemmy.ml , lemmygrad, and hexbear.net instances in your settings.

If I ever have to get a new one, I will madboi it with a monitor and DTV HDMI decoder.
They could make their own AI CEO and work for it. It would probably have more integrity and personality, too.
Don’t buy them, they are excessively expensive and tt’s a better idea to separate the smart functionality into an HDMI device of your choice anyway.
It’s so odd that a platform that relies so much on user content charges as much as or more than network streaming services. The market hold is leaking into it (and out).
The problem is that IP laws eventually are lobbied by the big copyright holders into being excessively long. How long did Steamboat Willie really have to be copyrighted for, and has their release into the public domain really affected Disney?
Eventually after you get back the money you invested, it’s just free money, and people like free money so much they pay lawyers and lobbyists that free money so that they can keep it coming.
Even when it doesn’t, it becomes its eventual outcome.
I should have opened the article, that’s a lot less intrusive than what I thought. If this is the extent of it, and frankly considering that Google let’s you opt out of personalized tracking when many sites have begun forcing them onto users and forcing me to constantly clear their cookies, that makes me a lot less mad with them.
I wonder what made their leadership continue to escalate into increasingly bullshit decisions. What happens if I need to pause because I need my PC to be quiet so I can address something and still an ad suddenly starts playing, completely interrupting what I wanted to address in a completely intrusive way? I’ll tell you what happens, I’ll either find some way to disable that from happening, switch to a service that doesn’t do it if I can, or just begin avoiding it all together.
Brilliant planing, YouTube. Whoever has been left as its leadership is a dumbass.
I disagree, not really an unpopular opinion.
I’ll toss it when I toss my plastic tupperware. The problem is re-usability, not what it’s made out of. SD card gets tossed out, doesn’t matter what it is made out of, it’s going to pollute.
What a downvote Nancy.

Good thing heavy metal toxicity isn’t a problem.
Money whale hunting.
This is another reason why a lack of transparency with user votes is bad.
As to why it is seemingly done randomly in reddit, it is to decrease your global karma score to make you less influential and to discourage you from making new comments. You probably pissed off someone’s troll farm in what they considered an influential subreddit. It might also interest you that reddit was explicitly named as part of a Russian influence effort here: https://www.justice.gov/opa/media/1366201/dl - maybe some day we will see something similar for other obvious troll farms operating in Reddit.
It’s not when it’s your device doing the computing. All electronic devices should have visible hardware indicators for when their camara or microphone is on, but that’s a consumer rights issue most people are dismissive of, so it’s not happening. Some people even always want it on for the assistant functionality.
Because opposition parties generally have their groups in there, which would cause political backlash and distance the supporters that still use it. Not that banning social networks abusing their privilege through hidden moderation and promotion and selling their user’s data so propagandist know who and how to target shouldn’t be done, but right know it would be done under the counter-chants of “repression” in the particular cold war 2.0 state of affairs of the world today, and that’s very politically taxing.
If X did that, then there wouldn’t be this thread. It isn’t just Google, it’s every international corporation that has to deal with issues across the border. I’m sorry, bud, but outside of the Musk personality cult chamber, the guy is just incompetent, he just made and inherited a few risky bets that worked out for him and he’s still riding their fading glory.
It’s possible but reddit isn’t the only one looking for engagement, so are individual users. If a site has more users, it has more engagement and content. It is also not impossible to drop the lemmy name when you do go back there to make people aware of the alternative.
