Yeah kinda! My pixel is still going strong, but I kind of feel forced to get rid of it now. I would much prefer to just flash a new ROM and get a few more years out of it. The hardware is (still) really good for the performance I expect out of my phone.

Why? C++ does wasm and I’m pretty sure the signal client is already written in C++. It definitely wouldn’t be something that could be pulled off quickly, but the ability to securely run code like this is kind of the whole point of wasm as I understand it, no?
Graphene only supports devices for as long as the manufacturer does, maybe slightly longer.

Man those things took me years to figure out how to do. It was really hard for me but I finally got it! I have to focus on the image without looking at it directly, and then the image “snaps” into place and I can look at it freely almost. Really bizzare.

Yeah this is what Bitwarden ended up doing. They didn’t want to be on F-Droid for very similar reasons; eventually they started hosting their own repo and its been gravey ever since. Highly recommend this option.

Yeah I used to think I’d always need a desktop, but these days I mostly only use my phone and laptop. And considering how small desktops are getting, I can only imagine the days of the traditional desktop are numbered.

The problem with that though, at least for Android Auto, is that Google (and I also presume Apple) controls the apps that can be shown on the center console. They effectively cut out all competitors by controlling the access. I would like an Open API for this please!
I’ve become convinced that Matrix should have been built on top of XMPP. They went out of their way to create a protocol from scratch when we already had XMPP available and well developed. This turned out to be much more difficult than they anticipated, and they’ve had to make drastic changes to the api, spec, and server over the years. Matrix will never be a stable, finished product because they aren’t even sure what that looks like. They can’t even stick with a name for crying out loud. Dendrite? Synapse? Pick one and put all your effort behind it.
The sifting sand base that Matrix is built on top of becomes really glatibg when you look at the clients and servers available for Matrix. Not one single third party app that I’m aware of implements every single feature offered by Element (the app). No other server is fully compliant with the API. And, Matrix is YET ANOTHER PROTOCOL that chat apps have to integrate with.
None of that is to mention that the VC for Matrix is about to run out. Either Riot/Matrix/Element/Whatever is going to sellout and enshittify, or they’re going to stop existing and the entire protocol will be dead in the water. XMPP doesn’t have this problem.
They should have built a beautiful XMPP app, slapped signal encryption on top, and called it a day.

I disagree, but the USA just isn’t willing to have that conversation right now. I work in a suburb and work in the middle of fucking no where 19 miles away; I regularly e-bike and take the bus to my place of employment. It takes the same amount of time to drive as it does to e-bike. The e-bike can also get me to all the places I run errands at as well. The only infrastructure I need is a dedicated, protected bike lane on the state and busy roads, and a well maintained public transportation system.
This is a solvable problem, even with the limited resources we have at our disposal.
Don’t worry, Microsoft will hide it in an obscure group policy so domain admins can disallow the “feature”. That ensures that mom and pop shops who can’t afford a full time security team still get targeted by their software.
