Technology@lemmy.world•Tesla Robotaxi Mows Down Bollards & Keeps Driving, After “Impeccable” Record Touted on Stock Call
3·2 months agoI’m honestly surprised that a Tesla Model Y fit in this gap. Maybe it ran over the first bollard a bit?

Edit: And, IDK, “managed to get out appropriately” in this case would unfortunately mean throwing it in reverse and doubling back through the cross-walk, I think. It’s never a good idea to run stuff over to get where you’re going.

I sometimes feel shortchanged as an American (no healthcare, FUUUUCK), but I only get real mad about it when I think about how we don’t get Hiluxes and Kei trucks.

He’s crushing it on Star Wars stuff, his comedy is on fucking fire, and weirdly he’s one of a small axis of Americans (bad word choice lol) who has the backbone to resist our descent into fascism. I agree with him and I fuckin hate it, bring back buttons, I don’t’ want to drive an iPad.

Feel free to use ad block, doesn’t hurt my feelings one bit. AdBlock Plus is still good. I’m shocked to meet a programmer who doesn’t already block ads TBH!

Technology@lemmy.world•Tesla Robotaxi Stops Mid-Intersection After Running a Red Light… The Influencer Onboard Calls It “Impressive”
1·1 year agoI’ve been thinking about exactly this… you could probably get an apples to apples comparison, by comparing only a specific model year.
IE, how did every 2023 car perform in the year 2024? Then, parse that by the vehicle’s price, or maybe by its propulsion type, maybe both. THAT would be how an honest study of the question would go.
Of course, Tesla knows that, they can afford really great data scientists. Makes you wonder why they run their obviously flawed safety study instead.

3·1 year agoI’ve noticed that, too.
The speed signage is nice when the car picks it up, but I’d call mine 80% accurate. Imperfect, but fine for a driver assist, I know not to rely on it.
Crazy move to put it in a 99.9999%-accuracy-required design.

I’m the automotive equivalent of a muckraker, so yeah, Tesla does enough weird stuff that I talk about them a lot. They’re hardly the ONLY news I cover.
Take this article, for instance, it was on the front page of Hacker News for a couple days, got decent circulation in European automotive magazines, too: https://fuelarc.com/tech/pop-up-ads-in-your-jeep-the-latest-stellantis-innovation/
Believe what you like, but the videos in that article are just videos, it’s not like those aren’t first-hand driving footage just because you dislike where you found them.

Seriously, though. I am an avowed enemy of the grim reaper, I’m a fan of Volvos for the same reason. And I like how transparent Waymo is with their data. The independent study linked is really illuminating if you like automotive safety stats.

I think folks see it for what it is. Sales are cratering, public spaces that are not twitter are increasingly intolerant of the Tesla fanboys glazing the supposed tech advantage ( that we can see with our own eyes is not real )
