I think part of the issue is that people on the left also tend to see nuances, which means more things to disagree over. Left falls out, right falls in line and all.

Same thing unfortunately. No honor in a real fight.

As a passable quality 3D artist who does it for a living I’ve found AI art (which can do 3D now to some degree) has kind of narrowed the scope for me. If you want generic Unreal style pseudo-realism or disney toon then AI can do that for you* I’ve had to focus much more on creating a unique style and also optimizing my work in ways that AI just doesn’t have the ability to do because they require longer chains of actual reasoning.
For AI in general I think this pattern holds, it can quickly create something generic and increasingly do it without extranious fingers but no matter how much you tweak a prompt its damn near impossible to get a specific idea into image form. Its like a hero shooter with skins VS actually creating your own character.
*Right now AI models use more tris to re-create the default blender cube than my entire lifetime portfolio but I’m assuming that can be resolved since we already have partially automated re-topology tools.

As with every profession every generation… only this time on their own because every company forgot what employee training is and expects everyone to be born with 5 years of experience.

Its worth remembering that EU fines are not one and done, if you don’t fix the problem they fine you repeatedly.

To be fair fusion energy got less than the minnimum ‘fusion never’ funding, AI on the other hand is getting all the money in the damn world.

I feel like LLMs didn’t hit a deadend so much as people started trying to use them in completely inappropriate applications.

10 Mbps is like average Scotland internet unless you’re in a major city.

Invidious sadly doesn’t allow for an account and subscriptions, at least not without running your own server which appears… complex.
Last time though there was a one generation gap before new jobs appeared and a bunch of people got to die of cholera in overcrowded conditions.

McDonalds where I live also still just uses the behind the counter menus (no kiosk menu) so you kind of need to walk over there anyway to be able to make out the actual text of the menu underneath the constantly scrolling advertisements that keep covering it.

The problem with conservatism is you eventually run out of others peoples stuff to sell.
What I really don’t get is that there are in fact models that you can feed a document too and they will directly copy/paste quote relevant parts of that document in their reply complete with a little reference to the correct page. Basically a smarter ctrl-F function that can take sentences as input.
When that exists why is google using the probabilistic shit in their search?

Unions are part of the social contract, its very simple. Those that have aren’t too harsh on those who have less, or we drag them into the street and tear them limb from limb like wild animals. We’re simply working through the various stages between complaints and dismemberment.

Just out of curiosity how does one connect to the snowflake in the event that normal Tor does not work? (in minecraft)

People who fawn over generative AI haven’t tried to use it for more than 5 seconds. I wish it could run a ttrpg game for me or even just remember the details of its original prompt but its not even close.

Governments fail to implement incredibly obvious, easy, and proven solutions all the time so yeh they can be pretty dumb. Not to mention historical examples of governments (paricularly the UK when it was a world superpower) investing their entire economies in nigerian prince tier scams.
Don’t forget that saying rich people should obey the law is also illegal.

I think people would find new ways to struggle that they actually enjoy and would likely end up contributing. Imagine a couple of thousand people with their new modest but stress free budgets decide to join a yearly potato cannon contest, Sure its not going to invent anything new directly but you now have a bunch of people learning about ballistics and stoichiometry and high pressure engineering all egging eachother on to shoot that potato further. The competition gets more and more fierce and with the much lower stakes people start trying some more out there ideas, before you know it you have a modest but highly effective solution to reliably obtaining the correct gas mixture for something like a combined light gas gun.
And that’s a deliberately silly example, you’d get a ton more art, people deciding to be athletes, coders, all sorts of hobies that can encourage healthy competition and often benefit society in surprising ways.
I suppose similar in the sense that the housing bubble involved a bunch of rich idiots speculating on bad debt that had been vaguely washed to make it look good and now we have a bunch of rich idiots speculating on AI based on vague promises that it’ll be good.
