This is a much needed thing, help force the redistribution of wealth, help people live a decent life as well. This gives more people more money to spend and would be good for the economy. I wish we could do this and ban tipping.

Paying workers a wage they can not just survive but thrive on has never been a “big blow” to any economy beyond the one of exploitation.
If Quebec raised minimum wage then companies would blame their quarterly increases on that. If minimum wage remains stagnant then companies will blame their quarterly increases on inflation.
And even if it would, would that not indicate that the “economy” is a shitty metric? Lol.

The truth is people have been so fucking brainwashed too. Just the other day some dude told me with a straight face that we couldn’t raise them in on the wage because it would create inflation.
I just fucking stared for a bit.
That is a very widespread belief because it’s very widely taught. And if people aren’t taught otherwise, then they’re gonna go through life believing the falsehoods that they were taught. And if they don’t ever encounter anyone else who can teach them that there’s no correlation between a rising minimum wage and inflation, then you’ve gotta be the one who’s able to explain it to them. Otherwise, how do they ever find out that that’s not true?
Unfortunately, wealthy folks have so deeply ingrained that in the public consciousness in the United States that many will outright reject any attempt to explain otherwise.

Most don’t, because our education system was designed to not teach us those things so that we’d easily fall for lies like “raising minimum wage causes inflation”. I don’t think ignorance or falling for propaganda should be considered irredeemable sins. If they’re acting like a jackass, screeching that their podcast proved it true or whatever, then it’s not worth giving them any amount of time, but if someone’s willing to listen, I think it’s always worth at least planting a seed in their mind that they might look into on their own someday.
Everyone gets so defensive around political disagreements because we’re all used to being at each other’s throats, but I’ve found that people are more willing to listen if I take the approach of explaining instead of persuading. I’m not necessarily trying to win anyone over with a single conversation, I’m just explaining what I’ve learned. If they disagree then that’s that, nothing good comes from trying to change someone’s mind who doesn’t want to change it, but most people will remember conversations where they were treated respectfully, and sometimes they start doing their own research when they don’t feel like they’re under attack.
Companies have X budgeted for labor. If the bottom has more, the top has less…and the owner still gets their share (period)… So you’re left with a drain of ‘good’ managers because they left the area because they’ve been through the bullshit and deserve their meager pay

All right, I know the snarkyness has meaning but in a RW scenario you have a chef, a sous chef, supervisors, lead cooks, apprentice cooks, porters, dishwashers and janitors. Which one is the ‘middle manager’ and who should we think of as being the fat in the larder that we should sacrifice in your scenario?

California raised their minimum wage for restaurant workers to $20/hr, which is closing in on $30/hr CAD. This resulted in a price increase for restaurant food of about 3.5%. I think we, and the restaurant owners, can handle that.
