I’ll be honest; my cooked brains first thought was how does beer and a CPU end in the same sentence.

Just asking why not call it APU as support is for CPU and GPU

Primarily because APU is an AMD marketing term. The announcement is correct in calling it a SoC, I just used CPU because the focus was on CPU and peripheral support. GPU is usable, just not fully working, and the NPU support is rough at best. I’m not sure if there’s any other notable accelerators on the chip.

Same, I’m sure it’ll arrive before the time macOS abandons the machine for updates so probably perfect timing

Same. I just got a good deal on one pre-price increase (so an even better deal) in April.

Once I can get my hands on a Graphene capable phone I’m out on corporate OSes and hopefully this hardware will last through the AI bubble.

My last Mac mini lasted that long.

it’s actually still going as my Jellyfin server, running Mint. Big upgrade from the 20 year old laptop I was using before :D

That’s what’s up. In my brief testing when it was just available M1 on a spare MBA, it was pretty sweet!
