If systemd is running, as it is on the great majority of distributions, then cron is running on top of it, as just another service. It’s not an either-or situation.

Linux@lemmy.ml•SpaceXAI backs Omarchy, the controversial Linux distro, with $1.5 million in computeEnglish
5·5 days agoThank you, Captain Obvious. The Rust community prefers that corporations have the freedom to embrace, extent, and extinguish open source contributions. Or maybe they don’t prefer it so much as they’re ignorant of it.

351·6 days agoWhich is very frustrating, because retiring C & C++ is long overdue IMO, but for reasons unknown to me, the Rust community is strongly against copyleft licensing.

732·6 days agoBecause of course it would.
I swear the move to replace the GNU ecosystem with Rust tooling has more to do with a corporate EEE push to remove all libre licensing than with memory safety or anything else.
What even was the idea behind the original name? Was “Postmarket” meant to evoke aftermarket, as in an OS you install to replace the original OS that came with your device?
I think that’s just regular scrolling.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doomscrolling (emphasis mine):
Doomscrolling is the act of spending an excessive amount of time on digital content (e.g. short-form content, user-generated content, AI-generated content, and news) that elicit negative emotions. The concept was coined around 2018, and became more widespread in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The World Health Organization (WHO) observed that the pandemic was accompanied by widespread misleading information, conspiracy theories, and false reports, which it referred to as an “infodemic”.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Under the hood (not de's or gui) what REALLY separates linux from windows?English
13·1 year agoThe licensing: Free and open source vs. paid, proprietary, and closed source. That really is the core difference, the licensing, and all the differences that come as consequences of that difference.
What separates the Linux kernel from the (Free)BSD kernels is copyleft/reciprocal licensing vs. permissive licensing.

15·1 year agoYeah, it’s a non sequitur given that those firms have always been constituent parts of the US military-spook-industrial complex.. They DGAF about our actual privacy, though they may prefer that we believe that they care.
Let me
GoogleChatGPT that for you.
Admittedly I didn’t read that one guy’s blog post very closely, but it seemed to claim that because some companies may some day misuse/abuse some features of passkeys, passkeys are poison and no one should ever use them.
